About the pool

The Elbow Park Hockey Pool, also known as The May Annual, was founded in 1998 or 1999 by a group of friends who attended Western Canada High School in Calgary. The annual draft has traditionally been held in the living room of the May family home, with several members of the extended May family part of the founding group and still in the pool today.

Since the 2021-2022 season the pool has been overseen by commissioner Rob M., ushering in a period of stability after a turbulent six-year stretch between 2015 and 2021 that saw three commissioner resignations and five changes of pool platform. The format has stayed largely the same, with three mid-season add/drop drafts to replace injured or underperforming players. Since 2024-2025, managers can also pay a small mid-season buy-in to replace a player outside the scheduled add/drop drafts.

Records before 2016-2017 are incomplete, and no comprehensive records exist before 2010-2011. Corrections and missing years go to the pool's data historian, Dr. Mamaburgers.
